Sodium Metabisulfite Market Global Industry Insights, Trends, Size, Share, Outlook, and Opportunity Analysis, 2022-2028
The booming food and beverage
industry, particularly in developed countries like the U.S., along with rising
consumer demand for food packaging to maintain food quality have significantly
increased market size over the anticipated time period. An inorganic substance
made up of oxygen, sodium, and sulphur, sodium metabisulfite is soluble in both
water and glycerin, making it the perfect material for use in a variety of
industries.
Due to its antimicrobial
qualities, sodium metabisulfite can be used as a preservative, reducing agent,
antioxidant, disinfectant, colour fixative, leavening agent, and bleaching
agent in baked goods like cookies, quiche crust, pizza crust, crackers, mixes
with dried fruits and juices, etc. Alcoholic beverages like wine, cocktail mixes,
wine coolers, etc. can also benefit from sodium metabisulfite.
The sodium
metabisulfite market has been divided into three grades based on grade:
food grade, industrial/technical grade, and photo grade. Due to their versatile
applications in the pulp and paper industry as an antichlor and for
delignification, in the textile industry as a bleaching agent for wool and
jute, and in the pharmaceutical industry for the production of antioxidant
drugs, the industrial grade segment held the maximum share of over 90% in terms
of volume in 2018.
The region's expanding textile
industry, which will drive demand for fabrics like silk, viscose, and hemp
among other products, is subject to strong demand from Asian nations. The
product has additional uses in the mining sector as a floating agent and
cyanide detoxifier.
